The building of the Museum of the Republic of Srpska was built in 1930. by the order of ban Tisa Milosavljevic. At first, it was called the Museum of Vrbas Banovina.
During World War II the Museum was closed. After the war, in 1945, the Museum was moved from location to location under different names. It was founded in 1992 and till this day it hosts various prehistoric and antique exhibitions, middle age and exhibitions from the Ottoman period and many others.
One of the most popular exhibitions is the multimedia exhibition of Jasenovac concentration camp. Since 2006 the Museum of Republic of Srpska host the popular event Night of the museum which is held each year in May.
