The Palace of Republic is located next to the cultural center of the city, the Ban’s Court, and formerly it was the Hipotekarna bank. This building was built during the government of the ban Tisa Milosavljevic. The Palace is decorated with two bronze statue of Krajina peasants which were added later and they were built by Vladimir Pavlovic Zagorodnjuk.
The beautiful building of the Hipotekarna bank was finished in 1936. based on the project of Belgrade architect Miodrad Vasic. After the World War II this building served as the Narodna bank. In the sixties, it was “Sluzba drustvenog knjigovodstva” or SDK as it is called even today by the locals. The building was and still is a place where locals meet when going out for a walk through the center of Banja Luka.
In 2008 the building was named as the Palace of Republic and becomes a place where the President spends his working day.
