There are numerous climbing areas around the city which make Banja Luka one of the best places for rock climbing in this part of Europe. If you are into climbing be sure not to miss the Pecka Rock Climbing Festival which is held each year in May at the Pecka climbing area in the Ubovica Brdo village.
Routes at this climbing area have a special attraction because of the fantastic view of the surrounding area and the Vrbas valley.
The stone bridge is located 24km from Banja Luka and the best equipped and most visited climbing area around Banja Luka. The climbing sektor has 38 routes, with a height of 6 to over 40 meters high, and the routes are graded from 5 + up to 10 -. There is a fresh water spring and a grocery shop in the base of the climbing area which makes this place ideal for relaxing, rock climbing, camping, and hiking.
Suturlija is the first rock climbing sector in Banja Luka and it is located only 15 minutes from downtown. Almost every day climbers can be seen here. At the Suturlija there are 10 routes, with a height from 6 to 15 meters, and they are graded from 6 – to 7 -.
The canyon Tijesno consists of 6 different climbing areas: Black Rock, Slalom, Zvecaj, Oker, Amfiteatar, Preko vode.
Black Rock
Black Rock is one of the rock climbing sectors in the canyon Tijesno and it is located 18 kilometers from Banja Luka.There are 8 routes, with a height of 10 to 55 meters and they are graded from 6 to 8.
Slalom
Slalom rock climbing sector is located about 15 kilometers from Banja Luka. It consists of a 4 routes, with the height of 12 to 18 meters, graded from6 to 7 -.
Zvecaj
Zvecaj is located 18km from the city in the base of the old ruin city Zvecaj. The area has 38 different bouldering routes.
Oker
The oldest climbing area in the city with routes more than 100m high. The first routes in this ares were climbing in the 80s. Unfortunately there are bolted routes here today.
Amfiteatar
This area consist of 4 routes ranging from 90 to 160m in height.
Preko vode
Very small climbing area with 3 beginner climbing routes.
This is the youngest climbing area and it is located near Mrkonjic City in the village Ubovic Brdo. The rock climbing sector consists of 70 routes with the height of 10 to 40 meters and they are graded from 6 to 10. In addition to camp sites, it is possible to spend the night in private accommodation with locals and you can enjoy the local cuisine.
