One of the most beautiful things about this city and the country are certainly the rivers and each one is unique in it’s own way. Although they are perfect for rafting and dajak activities during the hot summer days, the rivers offer fantastic conditions for recreational fishing also. The Vrbas is rich in many kinds of fish ( sneep, grayling, brook trout, huchen carp, pike, asp, ide, danubian roach, barbel and chub). The most popular type of fishing is certainly float fishing but lure fishing is also quite popular where fisherman try to catch the trophy specimens of queen of the Vrbas, the huchen which can weigh up to 25kg or more.
As far as fly fishing goes you ought to visit the small town of Ribnik. This small peaceful town is located 65km from Banja Luka in the base of the mountain Sisa surrounded by forests and unspoiled nature. Ribnik lies on two rivers, the river Ribnik and Sana. The spring of the Ribnik is based near the town center and the two springs of Sana are located around 25km from Ribnik at the peaceful old village Pecka.
The shallow bed of the river and the slow flow of clean unpolluted water makes the river perfect for fly fishing. There are a lot of capital specimens of grayling and trout and fishing is permitted with valid daily license on catch & release regime.
