Our beautiful city on the Vrbas is also known for the many cafes where thousands of coffees are being sold every day. You can buy espresso, macchiato, cappuccino but you won’t find homemade coffee in every cafe in the city. 5. Kafeterija 5

Kafeterija 5 is one of the most popular places where local youth and students hang out. This place is famous for really good espresso coffee and amazing cappuccinos. They also make the homemade coffee and this is the only place where you can get this prepared in hot sand. This place tends to get crowded so it’s can be hard to find a free table. But if you wait a bit, we’re sure you’ll find a seat. Kafeterija 5 is located about 15-20 minute walk from the city center. If you’re coming by car, a parking space is really hard, almost impossible, to find here.

4. Eklektik

Cafe Eklektik is located in the centre of Banja Luka city, across the street of Ferhadija mosque. In addition to the regular cafe menu, they also offer homemade coffee. There is a nice indoor and outdoor seating area for you to enjoy the view. And in case you get hungry, one of the best places to get burek and other pies is just nearby.

3. Piccolo

This small cafe is also located in the city centre, in a small and peaceful street. They offer great espresso coffee and cappuccinos, and they also make homemade coffee served in the traditional way. Although having a small indoor sitting area, Piccolo offers a nice outdoor seating area in the natural shade of tall trees. Peace, calm, shade…a really great place to have a coffee and take a break on your sightseeing walk through the city.

2. Dajak

Restaurant Dajak is named after the unique boat used on the river Vrbas. It’s located in the beginning of the walking trail up to the picnic area Banj Brdo (locally Šehitluci). It takes about 5 minutes of driving from the city center to reach Dajak, and if you’re walking it’s going to take about 20 to 30 minutes.

The restaurant is located on the bank of the river Vrbas and offers nice outdoor seating area in the natural shade. Here you can enjoy your coffee and a nice view of the Vrbas river.

1. Slap

Restaurant Slap is one of the most popular places in Banja Luka city and it’s famous for the delicious traditional food, homemade coffee, and fantastic view. This is also one of our favourite places in Banja Luka where we go to have coffee and enjoy the view. The restaurant is located about 10 minutes of driving from the city center and it will take you 15 to 20 minutes to get here by bicycle. For all those who love to walk, we suggest that you visit the local picnic area Banj Brdo (locally Šehitluci) and come here for a coffee on your way back.

The coffee is made and served in the traditional way. You get coffee in a small metal pot (called džezva) on a tin plate, small cup (fildžan), sugar and small cake lokum which is traditionally served with coffee. With coffee, we recommend that you try one of the traditional cakes, hurmasica or baklava, or just enjoy one of the most amazing views of the Vrbas river.
